Split An Atom Minecraft Launch

Written by Hammy Havoc on . Posted in Minecraft, News

The members of Split An Atom are a tiny bit obsessed with Mojang’s Minecraft.
Remember when you were a child and you would collaborate with others on building models or towns out of LEGO® bricks? We want to rekindle that community spirit of experimental art and mechanisms through our very own Minecraft server.
We started a community dedicated to our Minecraft server over on gaming.splitanatom.com, please register on our community if you frequent our server so that you can discuss the direction of the server with others.

Server: minecraft.splitanatom.com / 184.171.252.174:25565

We welcome artists and crafters to participate in the creation of art on our new server. We just ask that you don’t grief anybody or destroy pre-existing structures. If you break the rules then your IP will be permanently banned, as will your username.

If you have any issues with our server then please contact [email protected].

An introduction to Minecraft

Split An Atom Minecraft ServerNot played Minecraft before? Neither had we until three weeks ago. Let us explain what it is. Minecraft has two main modes, survival and creative. When playing survival, you have to mine for materials to build a house and tools in the daytime, but at night the monsters come out. You have to defend yourself and lock your doors, and you better hope you’re not just relying on the doors to keep the monsters out; the monsters can break down your doors and eat you alive. When playing creative, you have an entire inventory containing an infinite supply of every block available in Minecraft; you don’t have to mine. Creative is best described as playing in a LEGO® factory with your friends, only instead of a factory, you are given an infinite world to explore in which every time you login, one of your friends will have created something new. LEGO® have even collaborated to create Minecraft sets so that should give you an idea of how similar the two mediums are.

Minecraft is whatever you want it to be, there is no predefined objective on creative mode, something that may seem bizarre to players of story driven games.
When you first play, I highly recommend venturing into Multiplayer to get the hang of it and see why people love Minecraft so much; the community. You can try out the game on minecraft.net, but you are going to need a retail copy for either Mac OS X or Windows in order to play Multiplayer with us on our server.

Why do we like Minecraft?

Ever since we were children we’ve had a fascination with LEGO®, the way that you can build seemingly anything with it if you have enough blocks. That’s also the issue, if you don’t have enough sets you don’t have enough blocks so such a seemingly limitless thing becomes limited. Minecraft completely solves this. You can build sky high structures that span as far as the eye can see and beyond. It is truly limitless. When we were children we built towns out of LEGO®, incredibly intricate and large. This took up space, it took up our entire rooms and space was another issue. We are revisiting our love of the modular building block system with Minecraft. No longer limited by block numbers and space issues, our server is a unique creative haven and experiment.

The Future of the Split An Atom Minecraft Server

So where is the Split An Atom Minecraft server going? Amazing places built by friend, former strangers and people we don’t know yet. We’re going to know you all slowly but surely. The future is big, block based and fun. Let’s build something great together. Register today on gaming.splitanatom.com and we’ll introduce you to Minecraft.
